As a Clinical Social Worker and Registered Nurse, I understand the link between a client’s physical and mental health needs. Using a cognitive-behavioral approach, I help clients focus on ways to change their thinking, help them look at challenges in a more positive way, and learn strategies and techniques to deal with life’s stressors and conflicts.
As a therapist in private practice for nearly 20 years, I have helped clients learn strategies to deal with the stressors that bring them to therapy including anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, divorce, trauma and other life adjustment issues. With my understanding of the physical-mental health connection, I can empathize with a client’s physical struggles—such as a cancer diagnosis—and have a special understanding of how physical problems can impact emotional well-being.
My practice also focuses on helping adolescents journey safely through the challenges of school, friends, family struggles, and independence. In working with couples and families, I work collaboratively to identify problems and assist clients with the steps necessary to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. I strive to deliver short-term, goal-oriented care that focuses on the individual.
After a long career in medical, surgical and mental health nursing, I received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work in 1990 from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work.
